Today brought about the Deus Bike Build Off Sydney, a competition across 5 continents where the best local builders show of their skills on a global stage and one winner is chosen across the 5 events.
The first build off took place in 2013 with shows in Sydney, Milan, Bali & Venice but this year they turned it up a notch and added Tokyo into the mix. I headed down to my local event in Sydney on an unusually rainy Sunday to have a look at what was on offer.
Firstly the rules, simple & fair:
Walking around the display you could see such amazing attention to detail and really creative thinking, one of my favourites being this skateboard mount which I’d have no doubt loved in my younger years having spent so many of them riding around with a board jammed between my back and backpack.
If you like your boards an little longer and water friendly, then they’ve got you covered too with this cool little side-car.
Even though I headed down to the event as it opened, there were plenty of early birds taking in the sights and admiring all of the hard work on display.
After a few hours of snooping around and becoming sufficiently googly-eyed with all the new ideas that I want to do with my Forty-Eight, I checked out the merch tables and rode home out of the rain. A very wet, but great day!
Check out some of the bikes on display below, and let us know what your favourite is.
